Progress

I am experiencing the generalizations about chemo these past two days but most importantly I am getting stronger and making progress in treating symptoms. Yesterday I went to work for a half day and then today I watched the kids for two hours in the morning. I have had visitors and taken a few walks. The generalizations are the usual: week to week I feel better but day to day who knows; fatigue comes in waves unannounced like all other symptoms (bone aches, stomach, nausea, etc.); and whatever works to alleviate a symptom is good (but be careful that it doesn't cause something else).

My thoughts and prayers, while always including you all, are focused now too on my friend Malik, who commences a two day surgery at Hopkins on Monday to remove cancerous tumors in his vertibrae. Malik had a pain in his neck for the past year that orthopedists were dismissing. When he heard of my diagnosis he thought, "that could be me" so he went to see an oncologist and the cancer was diagnosed. Malik has a challenging road for the next year and I hope you all may send a prayer his way.

Malik will certainly be in our thoughts for the next couple of days. Keep packing on those pounds.

Glad that you are making progress in so many ways! I wonder which is harder: "real" work or watching the boys? I have a feeling that I know! Malik will be in my prayers. I hope his surgery went well! Dana

It's amazing the light that can come from darkness, isn't it? And amazing too to realize how dependent we all are on one another. Because of you receiving your diagnosis, Malik was prompted to demand his own. What a blessing. We are thinking about you everyday. xoxo Leigh, Dave and Edward McKenna
