My doctors say my energy level is that of a newborn, b/c like a newborn my body is fighting to develop an immune system. So I have no energy, but my determination is high, and serious. I ask my doctors not about symptoms, but about what I can do to recover better, and faster. I have a daily plan now, like getting out of bed a cumulative four hours per day, even if it is to sit in a chair. I use a breathing device as frequently as possible to develop my lungs, I try to eat a little something each day (even a bite or two), and I am vigilant in my anti-infection precautions. My father is here taking care of me while Liza's at home with the kids and he too is as thoughtful and loving and serious about my care. With your constant prayers (and I know particularly how important those are on this Easter Sunday), emails, cards, and positive thoughts I am motivated to drive through each day. I will get to tomorrow, stronger; and to next week, even stronger; and then soon enough just plain strong.
To each of you guardian angels taking care of my family in my absence: I love you.
With great love, affection, and respect,
Dave

Well, not much is happening here, except now that we've got Eli and Reedy celebrating Christmas AND Easter, well, they are going to expect some answers when you get back here! :) You were missed a lot today because your smile brings oh-so-much to gatherings of this sort. (No wonder - being the good egg that you are - pun intended, wink, wink. :) :).)
Your strength continues to inspire me. I love your goal-setting! I love your determination! You WILL persevere. Just think how far you've already come.
We love you!!

David,
I just learned about what you've been going through, and am so touched by your blog -- incredibly inspiring. Your strength, and clearly the strength of Liza and your family, is amazing. I'm including the story of The Two Wolves, which has changed my life -- the positive energy you're taking in and sharing with others made me think of it. All of the Bergs and I are sending you prayers, love, light, and healing.

Two Wolves
An old Cherokee chief is teaching his grandson about life:
"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
"One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.
"The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"
The old chief simply replied, "The one you feed."
David:
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep focused - you're an inspiration to all of us.
In case you didn't hear, Cornell beat Yale in OT on Saturday. They look pretty good this year! Say hello to your father for me.

We are with you Dave...thanks so much for keeping us all up to speed...I basically failed biology freshman year, so I rely on your first hand accounts to understand just what the heck is going on...sounds like things are going according to plan, so keep it up...plow on!
PS...bbll lost, hockey lost, but lax team pulled it out against yale in last second shot...duke and princeton both lost too! Go Big Red. Championships are in Boston this year, so mark you busy calendar!
Great to Skype with you last night, brother. You look like a champ. Balboa would be proud. See you again soon.

David -
I am glad to hear that your are hanging in there. I have been thinking a lot about the kite fishing. Rest assured, when you get out of treatment, we will have to plan an exquisite trip to try it out. You are in our thoughts often. Keep it up! I hope to see you soon.
Regards,
Andy Stewart
