Recurrence

Unfortunately the cancer is back. Starting about two weeks ago symptoms popped up and my physical condition has materially deteriorated ever since. The symptoms were obvious, including the abdominal pain, no appetite, and night sweats. We had a CT done on Sunday and PET/CT performed yesterday and the results confirmed that the lymph nodes throughout my pelvic region are growing fast. We have a few more tests and consultations through next week, and then hopefully new therapy can start next week or shortly thereafter. We'd like to get started asap so I don't start from too debilitated a state.

Once I realized the cancer was back I was filled with sadness, mostly b/c this is soooo much harder on my beautiful wife, but since then I have come to believe strongly that Liza and I continue to live a charmed life, we're lucky, surrounded by love and peace, with the incredible support of you, family and friends, and thank you. It may be hard, but you help make it is as easy as possible, I'm sure.

We'll keep you posted.

Dave,

I'm so sorry. I really am. I was hoping for a long remission...a lifetime remission!..and I still believe that it will come.

You will continue to be in our thoughts, and in our prayers, as well as your gorgeous family.

Love to you, Dave Holder.

I've been sitting here thinking of you for the last 24 hours wishing there was more I could do and wondering why this is so. And I'm drawn to two quotes (OK, so don't look at who said the first one, it's still a good quote!):

“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.” ~ Newt Gingrich

“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another.” - Walter A. Elliott (1892-1966), American army colonel

Apparently the big C didn't hear us the first time when we told it to get OUT of here, so we'll just have to be louder. That said, the Fisher household and the entire Fisher/Manigan extended family has become your largest cheering section tonite.

Sending you all our love. CALL ANYTIME, for ANY reason. Stay positive. We love you!

Colleen and the boys

PS - I am remobilizing Operation Holder Surprise. Stay tuned!

We're stunned - Thomas was telling us how well you were doing. I can't imagine how hard this must be on your family. Please know that we're thinking of you and know your positive energy will get you through this again.
Much love and prayers,
Liz and Phil

You are back at the top of our prayer list and please, please, please call if you need anything -- picking up the boys, playdates, dinner, food, etc. We are here for you.

I am feeling such anger and frustration for you, David, but I'm trying hard to turn that negative energy into something positive that could be of use. Need food, help or company...just say the word. Love is coming your way from the McKennas.

Dave - my man, thinking of you now and sending you our west coast love. my wife, little girl natalie and I are watching the steelers lose (yeah!) and just got an email from your mom with an update. what great support you have and all of these folks are lucky to call you a friend or relative. you are a unique soul and we're inspired by your fight. you'll be great and you'll remain in our hearts and minds.

P.S. I'm going to send you a book I'm close to finishing and hopefully you'll have some time to read it - it's a worthwhile read on the Duke lacrosse case.

All our love and hugs - Ethan, Ann and Natalie
