Winston
Winston Churchill, my favorite orator, is credited with two lines that are never far from the front of my mind.
First, "if you're going through Hell, keep on going". (Rodney Atkins' excellent country music 2006 song of the year borrowed this quote as the main refrain.)
I think of this quote, and song, often. When I'm going through a tough day or experience these words remind me of two important facts: (1) my life is blessed, really blessed, and the vast majority of people in this world have a daily difficult struggle to survive; and (2) life goes on, tomorrow always comes.
Second, another of Churchill's great lines, "you make a living by what you get, you make a life by what you give".
So powering through, plowing on with grace and determination, actively participating in life, sharing, loving, collectively these acts create my golden road, which gets me to tomorrow with a smile and the warmth and love of my entire community.

David - Beautiful post.
Here is another of my favorite Winston lines - one that makes me think about where you are on your journey:
"Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
I choose to look at this optimistically.
Plow on!
Love, Willie
Agreed, beautiful post. Dana
Thought of the day, baby! :)
This week's, btw:
Spinning Thought for the Day: Haste
“Most men pursue pleasure with such breathless haste that they hurry past it.” ~ Soren Kierkegaard
Thinking of you and so glad you've turned another corner in the "road" to recovery ...

David, Beautifully written and inspiring thoughts. The skies in LA have started to clear from the smoke and I thought about the Winston line during my long walk on the beach. Next year you, Liza, Eli and Reed will have to join me. (Ruby can't come on beach but I will show her a good hike.) XO EAH
