Parenting

The last two days have been great (Boston victories notwithstanding). I have been super disciplined with my eating, drinking, resting, and sleeping, and as a result I have had some terrific stretches of energy and clarity. My little sister, her husband, and their ten week old son (first child) visited us from Denver this weekend. So I got to meet my sister the mom for the first time and she's great, not surprising. I also got to spend my good stretches with my older son and I felt like a parent again.

When I have energy I love parenting. I don't know how I'll do with an older kid, but with a three year old I can answer questions, make funny jokes, be creative, and teach a lot. It is awesome, fun, and rewarding, and man-oh-man does it take energy and focus. How do people do it under normal circumstances? In retrospect, pre-cancer, when I was working full-time, and fully engaged in all of life's activities I wasn't parenting to my fullest. I was good with Eli, but not great, and mostly because I just wasn't around for the bulk of the day. It clearly takes a village and thankfully our village is strong and thriving. (Not to mention Liza parents for two on a bad day.) Thank you village!

David-

I read your updates every morning when I start work, and it is truly inspirational, and a great motivating tool.

Thank you for the personal note on the lymphoma charity letter. DarLynn and I really appreciated it.

Keep up the fight.
