Competition

First of all, I turned the physical corner yesterday; 8 days in from chemo. Not bad. Thank you all for pushing me to this place. Your emails, calls and notes during the chemo fog help immeasurably. You do keep me going, keep my spirits high, and allow me to see the forest from the trees, which for me had been difficult when I am so physically wrecked.

Now on to competition. There are many things in life from which I feel an immediate effect, for example drinking a Coke gives me an immediate sugar and caffeine high, or kissing my boys makes me forget about everything but peace. These things are easy and require little effort. There are others that require a lot more effort, and as always the more I give the more I receive. Competing on the court or field is a big one for me. I literally get high from playing. I just escape into the game, the comraderie and the competition. I feel elated the whole time and even exhaustion is fun. So my neighbor has been taunting me to get back in shape and join him at his Wednesday night hoops game. Even though I'm not yet even exercising (I tried the other day and it didn't go over so well), just the banter is getting me going. Fighting cancer is not fun competition, although it put on a good fight. I can't wait to compete against a friendly foe, one that I can see, on a court with rules, with egos, weaknesses and strengths, strategy, and teamwork; and win or lose, everyone's happy and alive. So look out neighbor, here I come. :)

Yeah, I can see it now. Holder leading the fast break...fakes left... fakes right and takes off from the foul line. Appearing Jordanesque with his elbo above the rim he slams it home for 2. How pretty!!
By the way, any room on the court for a seriously over-the-hill baller?

Robin (obviously not Elaine)

I don't have a competitive bone in my body, but I still appreciated your post. Something to look forward to!! Dana P.S. Unless rooting for my OU Sooners counts.

David,

You are truly an inspiration!!!!

Keep up the fight but don't let Robin on the court - you know he'll hurt himself!!

Love to all,
-Linda

Hey David- Nilson is an absentee owner in our fantasy football league... I'm sure he'd welcome unloading the albatross to someone else's hands if you're interested in further semi-friendly competition. And in case you think he's got the worst team- I just had to change the name of my team to the Washington Generals.
So seriously, if you're interested lemme know...

Hey Dave -- Definitely take Keith up on the offer. I'm in the League also (Eli and others too). I didn't think I'd like it, but I'm an addict. As for hoops, you're always welcome to play in my old-man's game Tue. nights at Gallaudet. Just let me know. Take care.
