Status Report
Dear Friends:
I am better. I started chemotherapy on ThursdayAugust 16th. After more than two weeks living in the hospital I was discharged on Tuesday the 21st. All experts are predicting my body will be cancer free by 2008.
My oncology doctor, Bruce Cheson, a T-Cell Lymphoma expert, has me on a four drug chemo regimen called CHOP. I take this one time, every three weeks, for six weeks. Upon completion of the second regimen my doctor expects to have a good idea regarding the treatment's efficacy. After the sixth regimen, my doctor expects the cancer to be gone from my system. In the meantime, my daily fights are with constipation and nausea. The doctors and nurses expect these symptoms to pass as we figure out the correct drug and dietary regimen. I hope it happens soon as I am pretty debilitated right now.
I feel as optimistic and blessed as ever. Your outpouring of love and support for me and my family has been a source of renewable energy for us all. I can't wait to beat this cancer back and get on with life; life with my family, friends, community, and world.
I love you and will keep you posted of my progress.

Your writing is brilliant--straight from the heart and so truthful. I never realized you had so much talent in this arena. You are dealing with this difficult challenge amazingly well--with the same optimism, energy, force and intelligence I remember you having back in 10th grade. I did NHL research in Med school and know that you will survive this ordeal. All the best to you and yours!
